Afyonkarahisar
An 8,000-Year History
The lands where Afyonkarahisar is located were first within the borders of the Hittite Empire. The region later passed to the Phrygians and Lydians, and in the 6th century BCE, it came under Persian rule along with the rest of Anatolia. With Alexander the Great, these lands became part of the Macedonian Empire. After his death, the empire was divided, and his generals entered into wars to share Anatolia.
